Kolkata, Aug 6 The West Bengal government on Thursday informed the Calcutta High Court that 16 FIRs have been registered against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in connection with various cases at several police stations in the state.
The high court had on June 30 granted interim protection to Banerjee from coercive steps by the police in connection with three FIRs lodged against him at Bhowanipore, Bishnupur and Kalitala police stations.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya had directed the government to provide a list containing particulars of FIRs registered against the petitioner as of that date.
A list containing particulars of FIRs registered against the petitioner was submitted before the court by the state, and thereafter it was handed over to the lawyer representing Banerjee.
The TMC MP's lawyer stated before the court that 16 FIRs, according to the list, were lodged against Banerjee in different cases at various police stations.
Banerjee's petition seeking quashing of the FIRs against him will be heard again on August 11, Justice Bhattacharyya directed.
The TMC MP claimed that the FIRs were borne out of political vendetta.
