New Delhi, Jul 21 A Delhi court has granted interim bail for 30 days to an accused in the December 2023 Parliament security breach case on humanitarian grounds.
The court, however, made it clear that he would not speak to the media or make any social media post regarding the incident.
Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal was hearing the bail plea of accused Sagar Sharma.
The accused said his father had passed away on July 14 because of cancer and that being the only male member in the family, he needed to perform the post-cremation rituals.
In an order dated July 17, made available on Tuesday, the judge underlined that the bail application had been moved on humanitarian grounds and not on the merits of the case.
He noted that the prosecutor did not oppose the plea.
The court then granted Sharma interim bail for 30 days on furnishing a bail bond and surety bond of Rs 50,000 each.
It also imposed several other bail conditions, including directions to him to appear virtually before the court on the date of hearing, not seeking bail extension, reporting to the police station concerned three days a week, not committing any similar offence and not tampering with evidence or threatening witnesses.
"The applicant (Sharma) is directed not to give any interview or hold any press conference or address the media. He is directed not to post anything related to the incident on social media platforms," the court said.
On December 13, 2023, in a major security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, two persons, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, unleashed a yellow smoke from canisters and shouted slogans, before being overpowered by some MPs and watch-and-ward staff.
Around the same time, two other accused, Neelam Ranolia and Amol Dhanraj Shinde, also sprayed a coloured gas from canisters while shouting "tanashahi nahi chalegi" (dictatorship cannot go on) outside the Parliament premises.
Six persons, Manoranjan D, Sharma, Shinde, Ranolia, Lalit Jha and Mahesh Kumawat, are accused in the case.
