The case was brought against Mr. Jayaramaiah following a complaint lodged in 2024, which alleged that various individuals posed as representatives of reputable insurance companies to fraudulently obtain a significant sum of money from the complainant. During the investigation, it was revealed that Rs. 15,15,639 was transferred into Mr. Jayaramaiah's bank account, raising suspicions of his involvement in the crime.
However, Mr. Jayaramaiah, who has served the nation with distinction and is currently residing in Tumakuru, Karnataka, asserted his innocence. He explained that he was deceived by an unknown individual who solicited his banking details under the guise of assisting him in obtaining insurance funds. The court found this explanation plausible, noting the absence of any direct evidence linking him to the fraudulent activities.
The prosecution argued that Mr. Jayaramaiah's account was used to receive the proceeds of the crime and that his involvement could not be ruled out. However, the court emphasized that the mere presence of funds in his account was insufficient to establish knowledge or involvement in the offences. The court also noted that the necessary investigations could be conducted through banking and electronic transaction records.
In granting the anticipatory bail, the court imposed several conditions to ensure Mr. Jayaramaiah's cooperation with the ongoing investigation. He is required to provide a personal bond, remain available for police interrogation, and is prohibited from leaving the country without court permission. Additionally, he must not influence witnesses or engage in similar offences.
