Kota (Raj), Jun 22 A special POCSO court in Jhalawar on Monday sentenced a 22-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for life for raping a 13-year-old girl last year.
The court also imposed a Rs 1,05,000 fine on the convict.
Special Judge Sanjay Kumar Bhatnagar awarded the life term to Suraj Kumar (22) in the sexual assault case, public prosecutor Depesh Bhargav said.
It was alleged that Kumar abducted the girl and then took her to an isolated place, where he sexually assaulted her, Bhargav said.
Subsequently, the police filed a case against Kumar under Sections 137(2) (kidnapping) and 65 (1) (aggravated sexual assault) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act and arrested him.
However, he was granted bail, Bhargav said.
The court later held Kumar guilty under sections of the BNS and POCSO Act and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Statements were recorded during the trial, and 23 documents were exhibited to the court, Bhargav said.
