Nainital, May 26 The Uttarakhand High Court on Wednesday granted permission to the Muslim community to offer Eid prayers at the District Sports Association (DSA) ground here for a limited duration on Thursday.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Subhash Upadhyay passed the order on a petition filed by the Muslim organisation, Anjuman Islamia, allowing the prayers to be held between 9 am and 10 am on May 28.
The court order resolved the confusion surrounding the venue for the prayers.
Earlier, the Nainital Gymkhana and the District Sports Association had granted permission to the Anjuman Islamia to use the ground, but later withdrew it.
The district administration subsequently clarified that the ground was reserved for sports activities and competitions, and that religious events cannot be permitted there.
Following the administration's decision, the organisation approached the high court.
Meanwhile, the district administration has started necessary preparations to ensure security and traffic arrangements for a peaceful and orderly event.
