Court Orders Custody for Vijay Singh Chauhan after Breaching Bail Terms; Directs Bar Council Inquiry
In a significant decision, the Allahabad High Court has cancelled the interim bail of Vijay Singh Chauhan, an advocate accused of harassment, stalking, and defamation of a female advocate. The court found Chauhan guilty of violating the specific conditions set during his interim bail, leading to his immediate custody and further directives for an inquiry into his professional conduct.
The judgment was delivered by Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal on July 20, 2026, in response to Chauhan's misconduct, which included unauthorized entry into the court premises despite a clear undertaking not to do so. The court observed that Chauhan's actions constituted contempt and interfered with the administration of justice.
The case traces back to allegations filed by a lady advocate, who accused Chauhan of persistent harassment over eleven months, including unsolicited advances and professional interference. Despite being granted interim bail in March 2026 with strict conditions, Chauhan breached these by attempting to influence the court directly and entering the court premises.
Justice Deshwal emphasized that such conduct is unacceptable, especially from an advocate, as it undermines the judicial process. Consequently, the court ordered Chauhan to be taken into custody immediately and directed the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh to investigate his professional conduct.
The court also mandated continuous personal security for the victim until the trial's conclusion to ensure her safety and peace of mind.
