Tezpur, Aug 1 A court in Assam's Sonitpur district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a person in 2011.
The court delivered the verdict on Friday against Abdul Qadir for the murder of Yasumuddin, a resident of Kurukani Latetapu village, who was hacked to death outside his house on September 9, 2011.
Qadir, along with two accomplices, attacked Yasumuddin with sharp weapons. The victim's wife was also injured in the assault.
Following the incident, Tezpur Police registered a case, and after the completion of the trial, the court found Qadir guilty, according to the prosecution.
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000.
In default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
