Mumbai, Jul 24 Mumbai police on Friday told a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court here that a Delhi judge has rejected their plea seeking custody of wanted accused Anmol Bishnoi in the NCP leader Baba Siddique murder case.
Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan's office in Mumbai's Bandra East area on the night of October 12, 2024.
Anmol, younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been named as a wanted accused along with two others in the case.
He was deported from the US in November 2025 and subsequently arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a separate Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and extortion case.
Anmol Bishnoi is currently lodged at Tihar jail in New Delhi.
On Friday, the crime branch of Mumbai Police, probing the Siddique murder case, submitted an interim compliance report before special MCOCA judge Satyanarayan Navander, providing details of their efforts to apprehend Anmol and two other wanted accused, Mohammad Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar.
After the MCOCA court issued a production warrant, a police team travelled to New Delhi, but the Additional Sessions Judge at the Patiala House Court rejected the Mumbai Police's request for Anmol's custody on July 22, it stated, without specifying the reasons.
As to the two fugitives, the report said the police have intensified the search for them.
Specialized police teams have been sent to Jalandhar in Punjab and Akola in Maharashtra to execute judicial proclamations issued under section 84 of the BNSS against Akhtar and Lonkar, the report said.
Section 84 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) empowers a court to issue a written proclamation requiring an absconding accused to appear within 30 days. Failure to appear leads to consequences like property attachment
Look Out Circulars (LOC) too have been issued against the absconding accused, the police told the court.
As many as 27 people have been charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions for murder as well as MCOCA in the Siddique murder case.
Anmol Bishnoi is also wanted in the case pertaining to the firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's Bandra residence in April 2024.
