Hubballi (Karnataka), Jul 31 The Hubballi-Dharwad bench of the Karnataka High Court on Friday stayed the life imprisonment of Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni in the BJP leader Yogesh Goudar murder case and granted him bail.
Kulkarni and 15 others were found guilty in the case on April 16 by a Special Court for MPs and MLAs, which announced the quantum of punishment a day after.
The relief came from a bench of Justice Mohammed Nawaz and Justice G Basavaraju. The High Court asked Kulkarni to furnish a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh and submit two sureties of an equal amount.
The Bench directed Kulkarni to cooperate with the investigation and restricted him from going abroad without the permission of the Court.
BJP leader Yogesh Goudar, a former Dharwad Zila Panchayat member, was hacked to death at a gymnasium in Dharwad.
Kulkarni, who was a minister at the time of the incident, was arrested in 2020 and later granted bail. He was later taken to the Bengaluru Central Jail.
