Shahjahanpur (UP), Jul 1 A court here has ordered the registration of an FIR against a station house officer (SHO) and four other police personnel over allegations of assaulting an accused in a POCSO case and showing his arrest a day after he was allegedly taken into custody, a lawyer in the case said on Wednesday.
Advocate Priyam Chauhan told PTI that a 25-year-old woman alleged before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court that police personnel assaulted her, her father Satyaveer and her brother when they visited their house on March 14. She also alleged that constable Dilip Singh and another person inappropriately touched her sisters during the incident.
According to the complaint, Satyaveer was taken into custody on March 14, but his arrest was officially shown only the following evening, when he was produced before a court and remanded to jail in connection with a POCSO case registered earlier on the complaint of a woman police constable.
Chauhan said the court had sought CCTV footage from the Sadar Bazar police station during the proceedings, but the police informed it that the system retained footage for only 15 days.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Jyoti Agrawal, in an order passed on Tuesday, directed registration of an FIR against then Sadar Bazar SHO Brijesh Singh, Sub-Inspector Ranjeet Bahadur Singh, constable Dilip Singh, currently posted with the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Bareilly, constables Ram Sajeevan and Narendra, and one Sandeep Singh under relevant provisions of law.
The court also directed the Superintendent of Police to have the case investigated by a senior officer from another police station after the FIR is registered.
