Faridabad, Jul 31 A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to five years in prison for kidnapping his neighbour's minor son in 2021 with the intention of selling him for Rs 20 lakh, police said.
Additional Sessions Judge Sandeep Yadav also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused, Ahmed.
The case was registered at the Sector-17 police station on March 12, 2021, on the complaint of the child's father, police said.
According to police, two-and-a-half-year-old Ishan, son of Santnagar resident Irfan, went missing on March 11, 2021, while he was playing outside his home.
Acting swiftly, police arrested Ahmed, a neighbour of the child's family, from his village Bichhiyan in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, and safely rescued the boy.
During interrogation, Ahmed told police that an associate from his village had informed him over the phone that a childless couple was looking for a young child and was willing to pay Rs 20 lakh for one.
Driven by the prospect of making quick and easy money, Ahmed kidnapped Ishan, police said. However, he was arrested before he could hand over the child to his associate in the village.
On March 11, Ahmed took the child on his motorcycle and went to meet a woman he knew in Santnagar. He told her that the boy was his nephew and that he needed to drop him at his village.
After leaving the child with the woman, Ahmed returned in a hired taxi. He then took the child to Delhi and travelled by bus from there to his village, police said.
During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and found Ahmed taking the child away on a motorcycle. The footage helped police track his movements and subsequently arrest him.
The CCTV footage, the accused's location data and the testimony of police officials proved crucial during the court proceedings, police said.
After pursuing the case in court, police secured Ahmed's conviction. The court on Thursday sentenced him to five years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, they said.
