Lucknow, Sep 10 The Allahabad High Court has sought a clarification from the Uttar Pradesh government on whether former Bihar minister and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) founder Mukesh Sahani was informed of the reasons for restricting him to his Lucknow residence for three days in June.
The Lucknow bench of the court passed the order on a writ petition filed by Sahani.
The petitioner's counsel submitted that the Shahjahanpur superintendent of police issued an order on June 28, directing Sahani to remain at his Lucknow residence from June 28 to June 30.
However, no reason was communicated to Sahani for restricting his movement, the petitioner claimed.
The petition further stated that the Centre wrote to the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary on June 30, asking the state government to communicate the reasons for the restriction to Sahani.
When the bench of Justices Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra asked the state government's counsel whether Sahani was actually informed of the reasons, the lawyer could not give a clear answer.
The court consequently sought the clarification from the state government and listed the matter for September 16.
