Chennai, Sept 2 The Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Union and Tamil Nadu governments to file a detailed report on the steps taken and efforts underway to trace and rescue the pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, who went mising following the catastrophic flash floods in Nepal.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice S A Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan gave the directive while hearing a Public Interest Litigation plea filed by advocate A F Parvesh Mushraf, which was transferred here from the Madurai Bench.
When the case came up for hearing, Advocate General Vijay Narayan submitted that out of 305 people who went to Kailash Yatra, 220 people were traced, rescued and sent to their native places. Steps were being taken to trace and rescue the remaining 85 per.
The relatives of these 85 people including Justice V Sivagnanam, former judge of the Madras High Court were taken to Kathmandu at government expenses, he added.
Following this, the bench directed the Union and Tamil Nadu governments to file a detailed report. The bench posted to next week, further hearing of the case.
In his petition, Parvesh Mushraf sought a direction to the Union and Tamil Nadu governments, to take all necessary and expeditious measures to trace, locate and rescue all the remaining unaccounted-for pilgrims.
