High court acquits man convicted by special court in drug case

Aizawl, Sep 2 The Gauhati High Court has acquitted a man convicted by a lower court in a narcotics case and ordered his immediate release.

Lalrosanga, a resident of Zokhawthar in Mizoram's Champhai district near the Myanmar border, had challenged the Champhai special court order which convicted him in 2024 and sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment in a narcotics case.

A bench of Justice Kaushik Goswami, hearing the criminal appeal filed by Lalrosanga on Tuesday, allowed his appeal and acquitted him of the charges.

After hearing the matter and examining the records, Justice Kaushik Goswami pronounced a separate detailed judgment in open court, interfering with the conviction and sentence and acquitting the accused.

Following the acquittal, the high court directed its registry to issue a release order forthwith and communicate it immediately to the concerned authority for necessary compliance.
