J'khand HC hears pleas filed by JPSC candidates over termination from service

Ranchi, Oct 9 The Jharkhand High Court on Friday heard petitions filed by successful candidates of the 11th to 13th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations over their termination from service.

The candidates have challenged their termination by a notification issued by the state government on August 18.

The bench of Justice Deepak Roshan, after having heard the petitioners and the government, fixed the next date for hearing on October 12.

The high court had earlier stayed the operation of the notification.

The Jharkhand government has held that there have been gross violations in the appointment process, necessitating the cancellation of the exams and termination of services of the successful candidates.

The counsels for the petitioners, however, argued that the government does not have the authority to cancel examinations conducted by the JPSC.

At best, it can terminate the services of employees, but the due process of law has to be followed, they submitted.

No show-cause notice was served or opportunity given to any of the candidates before termination of the services, they said.

The counsels also submitted that no chargesheet has been filed as yet by the CID, which is investigating alleged irregularities in conducting the examinations.
