Raipur, Sep 7 Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, a senior judge of the Orissa High Court, was sworn in as the chief justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court here on Monday.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, senior cabinet ministers and state officials attended the ceremony at Lok Bhavan where Governor Ramen Deka administered the oath of office to Justice Mohapatra.
Born on April 18, 1965, Justice Mohapatra holds a BA LLB degree and enrolled as an advocate with the Orissa State Bar Council in February 1988. He spent 26 years practising across diverse legal fields, including civil, criminal, service, and constitutional matters.
He also served as Additional Standing Counsel for the state of Odisha and the Orissa Public Service Commission, and represented institutions, including Central Cooperative Banks Limited (Keonjhar), Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited, Bank of Baroda, and the National Institute of Open Schooling under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Justice Mohapatra was elevated as a judge of the Orissa High Court on April 17, 2015.
His appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of former Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha on September 4. Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal had briefly served as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court from September 5.
