New Delhi, Aug 25 The Delhi High Court on Tuesday said Kshatriya Karni Sena president Raj Shekhawat, who has claimed to be under house arrest, was free to move around after police clarified that he was not under any detention.
The high court's order came on a habeas corpus petition seeking production of Shekhawat, who was stated to be confined in a house in the Neb Sarai area here.
A bench of justices Prathiba M Singh and Vikas Mahajan noted in its order, "Insofar as the allegation of detention is concerned, in view of the statement made by the counsel for the Delhi Police to the effect that the petitioner has not been detained, no further relief urgently needs to be granted in this matter."
The petitioner's lawyers claimed he was not permitted by the authorities concerned to leave the premises since August 24.
His lawyer said Shekhawat has been leading a nationwide awareness campaign in respect of the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026.
The counsel for Delhi Police submitted that Shekhawat has not been arrested in any case.
They, however, submitted that there is an apprehension that Shekhawat may proceed towards Jantar Mantar for a protest.
The court accepted the statement of Delhi Police and said the "petitioner is free to move around".
"However, if there is any protest that the petitioner wishes to participate in, the same shall be in accordance with law," it said.
