Indore, Aug 6 A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to double life imprisonment for the murder of a Special Armed Force (SAF) constable and his wife, who were the parents of the girl he was in love with, in Indore in 2020.
A chewing gum spat by the accused at the site of the double murder proved crucial scientific evidence for the prosecution in the absence of any eyewitnesses, a prosecution official said.
Additional Sessions Judge Hemant Kumar Raghuvanshi sentenced Dhananjay Yadav, alias DJ (25), to double life imprisonment under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for killing the couple with a sharp-edged weapon. The court also imposed a total fine of Rs 33,000 on the accused under various legal provisions.
Deputy Director of the Prosecution Department, Rajendra Singh Bhadoria, told PTI that Yadav was convicted of murdering SAF constable Jyoti Prasad Sharma (45) and his wife Neelam Sharma (43) with a sharp-edged weapon in the Aerodrome police station area in the early hours of December 17, 2020.
He said the Sharma couple was strongly against their minor daughter's affair with Yadav, and as a result, the girl, along with her lover, conspired to eliminate her parents and carried it out.
Bhadoria said as there were no eyewitnesses to the crime, the police conducted a scientific investigation.
"Police found a chewed gum at the crime scene, which was preserved. The DNA sample obtained from the chewing gum was matched with Yadav's DNA. The DNA report clearly established that the perpetrator was present at the scene at the time of the double murder," he said.
Other circumstantial evidence found during the investigation was also presented to the court as part of a series, Bhadoria said.
Deputy Director Aarti Bhadoria pleaded on behalf of the prosecution department in this case.
