Muzaffarnagar (UP), Aug 25 A man and his two sons have been given life imprisonment for murdering a labourer, weeks after they were handed down a similar sentence for killing a witness in the case in Shamli, officials said on Tuesday.
Four people -- Krishanpal, his sons Vivek and Vishant, along with Amit -- were sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast-track court in Kairana on Monday evening for the murder of labourer Paley Ram in Lank village on January 3, 2022.
Fast-track court judge Ritu Nagar also imposed a total fine of Rs 1.20 lakh on the four accused.
According to the prosecution, Paley Ram was beaten to death by the accused following a dispute over work in January 2022. His cousin, Vinod, who had witnessed the murder, was later killed by the accused, they said.
District Government Counsel Sanjay Chauhan and Additional District Government Counsel Ashok Pundhir told PTI that the four had already been sentenced to life imprisonment on August 3, 2026, in the murder of Vinod.
The prosecution said the accused had put Paley Ram's body in a sack after killing him and that Vinod had witnessed the act.
He was subsequently murdered to eliminate him as a witness, Chauhan said.
