Mandi court sentences man to five-year rigorous imprisonment in NDPS case

Mandi (HP), Jul 1 A 40-year-old man was awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment after a court here found him guilty in a narcotics case, officials said on Wednesday.


The accused, Sohan Singh, a resident of the Kotmorse area of Mandi district, was arrested with 945 grams of cannabis in 2021.


The court of Special Judge Aman Sood has levied a fine of Rs 50,000 on him. He must undergo one year of simple imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.


It also ordered the confiscation of Singh's motorcycle, which he used to carry the contraband during the commission of the offence.


A police patrol team arrested Singh near Baggi Palace in Balh on January 8, 2021. On spotting the police team, he had tried to flee on the two-wheeler, but was caught with the contraband in his possession.


Subsequently, a case was registered against him under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, officials said.
