Mumbai, Sep 2 A court here on Wednesday remanded in police custody till September 5 a woman candidate who had secured the seventh rank in the MPSC's Drug Inspector examination in a case of alleged paper leak.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested Rituja Patil, the accused, from Nandurbar in north Maharashtra on Tuesday. Additional sessions judge Shayana Patil sent her in police custody for three days.
Earlier, the Property Cell of the Crime Branch had arrested six persons including three Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) officials in connection with the alleged leak of the question paper of Drug Inspector (Group-B) screening examination conducted on March 22.
Patil allegedly received the leaked paper before the examination, and was advised to deliberately answer ten questions incorrectly to avoid suspicion of malpractice, police said.
Besides her, the other arrested accused are MPSC Assistant Section Officers Vishweshwar Dattatraya Nakate and Gopal Bhattu Marathe, MPSC Under Secretary Abhijit Ganpatrao Lendwe; Pravin Dilip Patil, director of Kautilya Academy in Nandurbar, and alleged co-conspirators Amrut Namdeo Patil and Lokesh alias Gaurav Rajendra Patil.
The accused accessed the examination questions before the test, compiled them into a separate set and distributed them to unauthorised persons, according to the Crime Branch.
