Kolkata, Sep 22 ISF leader and MLA Naushad Siddiqui on Tuesday moved a petition before the Calcutta High Court challenging the Election Commission of India's decision to replace the 'envelope' symbol, with which the party fought the April assembly elections in West Bengal, with the 'almirah' symbol.
His lawyer Shamim Ahmed mentioned the matter before Justice Krishna Rao's court, seeking an urgent hearing.
He said the ISF's petition challenging the ECI's decision to replace the 'envelope' symbol with the 'almirah' symbol is likely to be heard by the court later this week.
By-elections to Nandigram and Rejinagar seats in West Bengal are scheduled to be held on October 6, and the campaign will end on October 4.
The ISF has put up its candidate for the byelection to the Nandigram constituency.
Siddiqui, the ISF MLA from Bhangar constituency, who is also the leader of the party, filed the petition before the high court, claiming "injustice" by the poll body.
