NGT issues notice to MCD over 'illegal' waste collection point in GK Enclave

New Delhi, Jul 20 The National Green Tribunal has sought a response from the MCD over allegations that an unauthorised 'dhalao', or garbage collection point, is being operated by carving out a portion of a children’s park and green area in a south Delhi residential colony.

In an order dated July 16, made available on Monday, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad noted the allegation that the illegal 'dhalao' was operating in the middle of the residential colony in Greater Kailash Enclave-II.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner submitted that while the civic body had earlier closed the officially approved 'dhalao' in the area, the present matter concerned a waste collection point that had been “illegally carved out”.

The applicant, a local resident, also provided evidence such as photographs of the site.

“Issue notice to the respondent (MCD),” the bench said.

The advocate appearing for the MCD accepted the notice and requested four weeks to file a formal reply to the allegations.

The green panel has scheduled the matter for further proceedings on September 2.
