NGT seeks fresh report from Gautam Buddha Nagar DM about water bodies

New Delhi, Jul 15 The National Green Tribunal has directed the district magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh's Noida to file a fresh report disclosing the details of water bodies in the district, including their jurisdiction and the encroached area.

The green body is hearing the matter about the rejuvenation of the water bodies in the district.

In an order dated July 14, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel noted that NOIDA Development Authority, Greater NOIDA Development Authority and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) had territorial jurisdiction in the district.

It said that the District Magistrate (DM) had filed a report dated July 10, but it did not have certain details, such as area of each of the water bodies according to the old revenue record, the encroached area and the action taken to clear the encroachments.

“Hence, we require the DM to file a fresh report keeping in view the observations made above and disclosing therein in tabulated form the details of the ponds/water bodies which are in the district with specific reference to the (jurisdiction of) three authorities, the area of each of the ponds/water bodies and the area encroached upon,” the tribunal said.

The matter has been listed on September 25 for further proceedings.
