Odisha: OAS officer gets 3 years' rigorous imprisonment in bribery case

Bhubaneswar, Aug 13 A court in Bargarh district on Thursday sentenced an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer to three years' rigorous imprisonment after convicting him in a bribery case, officials said.


The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bargarh, pronounced the verdict after examining witnesses and relevant documents.


The convict, Govinda Dandasena, is a former additional tahasildar of Bijepur and is currently serving as executive officer of Rajgangpur Municipality in Sundargarh district.


Dandasena was convicted for demanding and accepting a bribe from a landowner to process the mutation of his land records, a Vigilance officer said.


The Vigilance department will now approach the competent authority seeking Dandasena's dismissal from service following his conviction, the officer said.


In a related development, the anti-corruption agency arrested two government officials in Jagatsinghpur district for their alleged involvement in the misappropriation of government funds amounting to Rs 3.02 crore in Tirtol block.
