Dindigul (Tamil Nadu) Aug 7 A sub-registrar arrested in connection with a land fraud case in Palani was remanded in judicial custody till August 21 by a local magistrate, officials said on Friday.
Justin Manikandan, who was arrested in the Palani Math land scam, was admitted to the Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital after complaining of illness last night. He is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The case revolves around the alleged illegal sale and registration of 1.40 acres of prime land belonging to the Dhandayuthapani Swamigal Mutt in Palani, a property valued at approximately Rs 100 crore.
The probe was transferred to the Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID).
On August 5, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court dismissed Manikandan's anticipatory bail plea. The following day, a special CB-CID police team tracked him down to a house in the Kodaikanal hills where he was hiding and secured his arrest. He was then produced before the magistrate, during which he complained of illness and was sent to the hospital.
Following his hospitalisation, Judicial Magistrate-I Bhagyaraj personally visited the medical college hospital to inspect and review Manikandan's condition and ongoing medical care.
Upon assessment, the Magistrate issued orders remanding him in judicial custody until August 21.
Officials confirmed that Manikandan will remain in hospital care under judicial custody until his health improves.
