Patna HC issues notices to K'taka officials over procedural lapses in custody of 2 Bihar residents

Patna, Sep 7 The Patna High Court has issued notices to Karnataka police and administrative officials over alleged procedural lapses in taking two Bihar residents into custody from the eastern state's Vaishali district last month.

As per a writ petition filed by one Shatrudhan Prasad Singh, Karnataka Police on August 12 took Alok Ambani and Aman Kumar into custody without informing the local police, and took them away without obtaining transit remand from a court.

The division bench comprising Justices Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Sunil Dutta Mishra, in an order dated September 3, took strict note of alleged procedural lapses in the inter-state action.

Justice Ranjan also directed both Bihar and Karnataka state authorities to file affidavits "giving entire narration of the manner in which and the reasons for which these two persons were taken away".

He also asked the authorities to disclose their whereabouts and the judicial process, if any, followed in the matter of their arrest.

The matter has been posted for hearing on September 16, the court order mentioned.
