Pune, Jul 27 A sessions court in Pune on Monday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for raping an 18-year-old woman on the premises of a suburban railway station in 2016.
Additional Sessions Judge S M Tapkire, who convicted the duo -- Sharad Murlidhar Salve (35) and Ankitsing Ratansing Bista alias Kancha (34) -- also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each, officials said.
According to the prosecution, the survivor had arrived at Talegaon railway station on the outskirts of the city by a train from Baramati town in Pune district in western Maharashtra in 2016.
The two lured the woman on the pretext of offering food and took her to a tin shed in the parking area within the railway station premises, where they raped her, it said.
The case was investigated by the Pune Railway Police under the supervision of then-sub-inspector Shamshuddin Shaikh, who later filed a chargesheet in the sessions court.
During the trial, the prosecution led by government counsel S A Kshirsagar examined 12 witnesses. Based on testimonies of the witnesses and evidence presented by the prosecution, the court pronounced both the accused guilty.
