Sambhal, Sep 10 A court here has sought a report from police on a complaint filed against senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh over his alleged remark in 2009 comparing Hindu deities Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh with Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The complaint was filed by Hindu Shakti Dal national president Simran Gupta before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (MP/MLA Court) in Chandausi on Thursday, seeking registration of an FIR against the Congress leader.
Advocate Prasoon Kumar, representing the complainant, alleged that Ramesh's remarks had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and amounted to an insult to Sanatan Dharma.
Gupta told PTI that she had earlier sent a complaint by speed post to the Bahjoi police station and the Sambhal superintendent of police on July 7, seeking registration of a case, but no FIR was registered.
She subsequently approached the court, which has fixed September 18 as the next date of hearing and sought a report from the police, she said.
According to the complaint, the remarks were made by Ramesh at a Congress public meeting in Bhopal on September 12, 2009, when he was the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for environment.
