New Delhi, Jul 21 The Supreme Court on Tuesday took note of an urgent mention by a woman advocate alleging that she and her client were assaulted by an office bearer of the Bar Association inside the Lucknow district court premises.
"I will also speak to him (Justice Rajan Roy of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court who is also the administrative judge of the Lucknow district courts), on going into chamber," Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said and asked the woman lawyer, who usually practice in the apex court, to go and see Justice Roy with her grievances.
The matter was mentioned at the conclusion of the day's proceedings before the bench which also comprised justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi.
Seeking immediate intervention, the advocate told the bench while appearing through video conferencing, "The matter is very urgent. I came to the Lucknow district court to attend a hearing. The defendant is a Bar Association office bearer. He is not letting us appear in the matter. He has assaulted us. Our client is still in the captivity of the Bar Association office. He has a gun."
According to the lawyer, she first approached the high court, which, she said, asked her to approach the Supreme Court if it was so urgent.
The CJI asked her to immediately approach Justice Roy, the senior-most judge at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court and also the administrative judge of the Lucknow district courts.
