Mumbai, Aug 27 A special court here on Thursday sentenced six people to 20 years' imprisonment for manufacturing drugs inside a flat in suburban Oshiwara.
Judge S M Buke had on Tuesday convicted Sachin Bagul, Sajid Electricwala, Chandrakant Katade, Rahul Salunke, Ayub Tafsir Khan and Bhanudas More alias Bhavesh Patel under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Indian Penal Code provisions.
The special judge for NDPS cases pronounced the sentence on Thursday.
As per the prosecution, Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad nabbed Bagul near Hotel Shreeji, Oshiwara with 1 kg of mephedrone or 'MD' drug on June 29, 2015. His interrogation led the investigators to a flat in Oshiwara where drugs were being manufactured.
The police recovered 25.5 kg of MD, 25 kg of unfinished drugs and 100 litres of chemicals from the flat.
Special public prosecutor Avdhut Chimalkar examined 44 witnesses during the trial.
Patel was the kingpin and had trained the other accused in the manufacture of MD, he told the court.
The court held that the prosecution proved that the accused had set up a clandestine lab in a flat in Oshiwara where they manufactured drugs in a controlled environment conducive for chemical reaction.
It was also proved that the accused had travelled to Gujarat for training in the manufacturing of mephedrone and acted in a well-planned manner, the court said.
