Hyderabad, Aug 12 The Telangana High Court on Wednesday ordered an interim stay on the state government's ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ and ‘Shaadi Mubarak’ schemes for a period of four weeks.
The court passed the interim directions while hearing a petition filed by advocate Vijay Gopal challenging the constitutional validity of the government orders of the ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ and ‘Shaadi Mubarak’ schemes.
After the state did not file a counter in the petition, the court ordered an interim stay on the schemes.
The petitioner argued that the government orders were not backed by any law made by the state legislature.
The previous BRS government in 2014 launched the 'Kalyana Lakshmi’ and ‘Shaadi Mubarak’ schemes offering one-time financial assistance of Rs 1,00,116 at the time of marriage for brides.
The scheme 'Kalyana Lakshmi' was launched in 2014 by the Telangana government with the aim of alleviating financial distress in SC/ST and minority families by providing financial assistance to unmarried girls at the time of marriage.
In order to prevent child marriages and support the marriage expenses of financially distressed families, the government introduced 'Shaadi Mubarak', providing financial assistance for marriages of minority community girls.
