Sambhal (UP), Aug 7 A court sentenced three men to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 4.25 lakh for killing a 22-year-old man at a roadside eatery in 2021 after the victim allegedly asked them to wait for their rotis to be prepared, a prosecution official said on Friday.
Additional District Government Counsel Hari Prakash Saini said the incident took place on July 30, 2021, in the Chaman Sarai area under the Sambhal Kotwali police station.
The victim, Rehan, was preparing rotis at a dhaba when Salman, his brother Salim alias Putla, and Javed allegedly asked him to serve the rotis quickly. When Rehan told them that it would take some time, the three allegedly abused him, Saini said.
When Rehan objected to the abuse, two of the accused allegedly caught hold of him while the third stabbed him in the abdomen, he said.
Rehan was taken to a hospital in Moradabad for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries at Sai Hospital, Saini said.
A case was registered against the three accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder.
Police arrested Javed. Salman and Salim were subsequently involved in an encounter with police on August 1, 2021. Police arrested Salim during the encounter, but Salman escaped.
A constable, Lokendra, was also injured in the exchange of fire, the prosecution said.
Salman was later arrested, and the alleged weapons used in the crime were recovered, he said.
Additional Sessions Judge Awadhesh Singh, after examining the evidence, sentenced the three to life imprisonment.
