Mangaluru (Karnataka), Jul 29 A court here on Wednesday sentenced three people to life imprisonment for the 2021 murder of a 73-year-old man in Dakshina Kannada district during a robbery bid.
The Second Additional District and Sessions Court convicted Elma Preschit Barreto, Charan Kumar and Satish Nayak in the murder of Benedict Carlo, a resident of Ammunje in Bantwal taluk.
According to the prosecution, the convicts had conspired to rob the elderly man of his gold ornaments.
Elma, who was employed as his caregiver along with the two accomplices, initially attempted to kill him by administering poison and later allegedly smothered him to death.
The court held them guilty of murdering Carlo, robbing him of 61.070 grams of gold ornaments and destroying evidence.
