Bhubaneswar, Sep 1 Three retired Odisha government employees, including a doctor, have been convicted by vigilance courts for their corrupt practices while in service, officials said on Tuesday.
The convicted officials are Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital's retired senior surgery specialist Debendranath Nayak, retired assistant revenue inspector Durga Prasad Sahu and former soil conservation officer Kartikeswar Sahu, they said.
All three retired state government employees were convicted on Monday.
According to the vigilance officials, Nayak, who was arrested while taking a bribe to conduct an operation, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment.
Durga Prasad Sahu, the former assistant revenue inspector, was apprehended by vigilance officers for taking a bribe from an applicant for submitting a favourable report in a mutation case, the officials said.
The vigilance court at Sambalpur awarded him one year of rigorous imprisonment, they said.
Kartikeswar Sahu, a former soil conservation officer of Purunakatak in Boudh district, was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment, and a fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed as per the order issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani.
The anti-corruption department has decided to approach the competent authority for stoppage of pension of the convicted officials, they said.
