Seoni (MP), Jul 1 Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday said the tribal communities of the state will be excluded from the scope of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

A proposal to implement the UCC in the state will be introduced in the coming monsoon session of the legislative assembly, he said, speaking at the paddy festival held at the district headquarters here.

"The tribal communities of the state will be excluded from the scope of the UCC," he said.

More than 10 lakh people in the state have supported the UCC proposal, while only 50 to 60,000 people have opposed it, Yadav said.

The monsoon session will begin on July 20 and end on July 24.

The BJP government in the state had earlier constituted a committee headed by Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai to draft the UCC. The committee, which accepted oral and written suggestions from representatives of political parties, religious leaders, administrative officials and members of various communities, is expected to finalise the draft soon.

The Congress had asked the government to clarify how the UCC would ensure protection of the customs, cultural identity and special rights of the tribal communities.

Chief minister Yadav, meanwhile, also announced at the event that the 'Bhavantar' price differential Yojana would be extended to the rice crop.

Under the scheme, farmers get the difference between the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the market price if the market price of a crop is lower.

Currently, soybean farmers get the benefit of the scheme.

On this occasion, Yadav transferred Rs 2.84 crore as a bonus for Kodo-Kutki at the rate of Rs 1,000 per quintal to the accounts of 3,941 farmers under the Rani Durgavati Shrianna Protsahan Yojana.

He transferred Rs 365 crore to over 16,754 labour families in the state with a single click under the Chief Minister's Jankalyan (Sambal) 2.0 Yojana. He also performed the groundbreaking ceremony and inauguration of 629 development works in the district with an estimated cost of Rs 494.16 crore.

The land of Mahakaushal is world-renowned for rice production, the chief minister said, adding that the tiger roar in the Satpura mountains and the Chhatriya rice give the region its identity.

"Chhatriya rice has now received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. This is a global recognition of our indigenous and traditional agriculture," he said.
