Thane, Sep 21 Two Bangladeshi women were convicted in separate orders for illegal entry into India and stay in the country without valid documents.
In the first case, Additional Sessions Judge BD Shelke found 55-year-old Morjina Oliyar Fakir guilty under Section 14A(b) of Foreigners Act and sentenced her to two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.
Fakir was apprehended on May 12 last year by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) from Shanti Park in Mira Road (East).
The accused has failed to discharge burden upon her that, she is Indian citizen or staying in Indian with valid passport and travel documents, the order said.
In the second judgment, Additional Sessions Judge VL Bhosale held Rupban Begam Chachamiyan Shaikh (35) guilty under Indian Passport (Entry into India) Act and Foreigners Act, 1946.
Shaikh, who was arrested on May 24, 2025, in Mira Road (East) after AHTC officials discovered digital copies of her Bangladeshi passport and national ID card stored on her mobile phone, was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of six months under Passport Act and one year under Foreigners Act.
The court said the accused was found in possession of her own official Bangladeshi government documents, which is the most conclusive possible evidence of her Bangladesh citizenship.
