Prayagraj, Jul 25 The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has directed all the Bar Associations across the state to submit a list of lawyers who have been booked in serious criminal cases, charge-sheeted, or have criminal trials pending against them.
This comes in compliance with directions from the Allahabad High Court.
In a July 23 notification issued by the Bar Council secretary, the Bar Associations were asked to submit the list within 15 days; any failure to submit the list within the stipulated time will lead to cancellation of their affiliation to the Bar Council.
Besides, any default on the part of the Bar Association concerned will be treated as disobedience of the high court order, and a report in this regard will be submitted to the high court, the notification said.
The high court, in its order dated June 3 in the case of Mohammad Kafeel versus State of Uttar Pradesh, had directed appropriate action against lawyers against whom serious criminal cases were registered.
The high court had also expressed dissatisfaction over the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council's report, which identified only 105 lawyers -- out of 5 lakh registered -- who have got themselves enrolled through fake degrees.
The high court has directed the listing of the matter on August 20, 2026.
