Sambhal (UP), Sep 21 A court in Sambhal district on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of two police constables and also imposed a fine of Rs 1.64 lakh on him.
Assistant District Government Counsel Aditya Kumar Singh on Monday said that on July 17, 2019, a police van transporting an accused person from the Chandausi court to Moradabad Jail was passing through the 'Green Chandausi' area located beyond Dhannumal Tiraha on Moradabad Road under Baniyather police station when the incident took place.
Dharmpal, Kamal, and Shakeel threw red chilli powder into the eyes of constable Brajpal Singh and constable Harendra Singh, fired at them with a service rifle, and committed the murder before fleeing the spot.
Kamal and Shakeel were subsequently killed in a police encounter. However, the third accused, Dharmpal, was arrested by the police.
Kamal was gunned down by the police in Amroha in July 2019, while Shakeel was killed during an encounter in Sambhal in August 2019.
On Monday, Additional District Judge (POCSO) Awadhesh Kumar Singh held Dharmpal guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment in connection with this case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.64 lakh on him, Singh said.
Singh further said that Dharmpal was brought from Moradabad District Jail to Chandausi on Monday for a court appearance. After the hearing and the pronouncement of the sentence, he was sent back to jail in police custody.
