UP: POCSO court in Bareilly sentences man to 10 years for raping minor with disability

Bareilly, Aug 29 A POCSO court here on Saturday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for luring away and raping a minor girl with a disability, police said.


The court also imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 on the accused, they said.


Superintendent of Police (South) Anshika Verma said the incident took place in 2017.


The complainant told police that a 'Teej' fair was being held in the Shahi area on July 26, 2017, and his wife and 16-year-old daughter, who has a disability, had gone to visit it.


At the fair, the accused, Ravi, a resident of Ghatgaon village in the Baheri area, allegedly lured the minor girl away and raped her. A case was subsequently registered at the Shahi police station.


Police said Special Public Prosecutor Alok Pradhan presented six witnesses before the court.


Additional District and Sessions Judge Narendra Prakash held Ravi guilty.
