Meerut, Jul 31 A court here on Friday sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing her husband in 2017 with the help of a 16-year-old boy and stuffing his body into a sack before hiding it in a storage room.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Ritish Sachdeva sentenced Diya alias Deepa, a resident of Shivpuram in the TP Nagar police station area, to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 after convicting her under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC.
Prosecution officer Prerna Chaudhary told PTI that the court pronounced the sentence in connection with the murder of Baburam, who was 25 years old at the time of the incident.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the night of October 21, 2017, when Baburam was living with Diya in a rented house in Shivpuram.
The prosecution alleged that Diya summoned her acquaintance, 16-year-old Shivam, to the house that night. Shivam allegedly held Baburam while Diya repeatedly struck him on the head with a wooden laundry paddle.
She subsequently strangled him to death using the electric cord of an iron, the prosecution said.
Chaudhary said the deceased's nephew was an eyewitness to the incident and also testified before the court.
After the murder, Diya allegedly threatened the child with death if he disclosed the incident to anyone, according to the prosecution.
The accused woman and Shivam then allegedly stuffed Baburam's body into a sack and hid it in a room used for storing junk.
The prosecution officer said the case against Shivam is pending before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Following information about the incident, the TP Nagar police registered a case under sections 302 and 201 of the IPC and launched an investigation.
Evidence was collected during the probe, following which a charge sheet was filed in court, Chaudhary said.
