Kolkata, Aug 24 Verbally instructing the state not to take steps against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's aide Sumit Roy in the meantime, the Calcutta High Court adjourned hearing of his petition challenging four FIRs against him till September 10.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya said that this court wants to see the outcome of the special leave petition of Roy before the Supreme Court.
Roy questioned the propriety of four FIRs against him, praying for interdiction of criminal prosecution against him based on these cases.
Additional Advocate General Rajdeep Majumdar stated before the court that Roy has been granted an interim protection from coercive action by the Supreme Court in connection with another case, which is scheduled to come up for hearing again on August 31 before the top court.
He prayed that Roy's petition challenging the four FIRs before this court be taken up for hearing after August 31.
Justice Bhattacharyya adjourned hearing in this petition till September 10, permitting Roy to bring to the notice of the court if any steps are taken by the police in the meantime affecting his personal liberty.
The court directed the superintendent of police of Diamond Harbour police district to submit a report on the next date a list of criminal cases filed against Roy.
Roy's lawyer stated that they were aware of six FIRs against him. In one case, the high court granted interim protection, while in another, the Supreme Court granted interim protection.
Roy moved the high court challenging the four other FIRs against him.
