Couple sentenced to life imprisonment for killing businessman in 2022

Jaipur, Sep 8 A court in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for murdering a 50-year-old businessman in December 2022.


Additional District and Sessions Judge Kamal Lohia on Monday also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the convicts Jasmine alias Ashu (26) and her husband Rohit (27).


The partially-burnt body of the businessman, Vijendra Singh Rathore, was found in a vacant plot behind a house, according to additional public prosecutor Rajpal Nayak,


Jasmine, who was allegedly in a relationship with Vijendra, had called him to the couple's rented house.The couple allegedly took Rathore's ATM cards, cash and mobile phone and forced him to reveal his ATM PIN.


They then tied him up and repeatedly hit him with an iron griddle and sticks, resulting in his death, Nayak said.


The accused then took the body on a stolen handcart to a vacant plot and set it on fire using petrol. They later allegedly withdrew money using his ATM card.


Police subsequently arrested the couple from Abohar in Punjab.
