Delhi court grants 10-day police custody of narco kingpin deported from Turkiye

LAW FINDER NEWS NETWORK |

New Delhi, Oct 3 A Delhi court on Saturday granted 10 days' custodial interrogation of alleged narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh, who was deported from Turkiye.

The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Singh after his arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, court sources said.

Special Judge Anuradha Shukla allowed the Delhi Police's plea seeking 10 days' custody of the accused.

During the proceedings, the prosecutor said Singh was the kingpin of a narco network and needed to be taken to several states, including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, for investigation into a 2022 case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced Singh's deportation from Turkiye.

Calling it a historic milestone of the Narendra Modi government, Shah said Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship under the fake identity of Navab Virk and continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine to India from Afghanistan.

"Our agencies tracked him down, ripping apart veil after veil to unmask his true identity, and secured his deportation. Today he has been brought back to India," Shah said.
