LAW FINDER NEWS NETWORK |

New Delhi, Aug 18 A Delhi court on Tuesday granted four weeks' interim bail on medical grounds to former director general of health services (DGHS) Vatsala Aggarwal arrested in an alleged health procurement scam.

Her counsel had earlier moved the plea seeking interim relief on the ground that Aggarwal, 61, suffers from age-related medical ailments.

Special Judge Vidya Prakash allowed interim bail subject to conditions, including furnishing a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of the like amount.

The Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) had arrested her on June 27 in connection with an alleged multi-crore procurement scam involving medicines, surgical items and medical equipment.

Earlier, Dr Vijay Kumar Ranga, former head of the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) for medicines, surgical items, consumables and medical equipment, had been arrested on June 18.

Ranga's plea seeking regular bail was dismissed by the court on Monday.

According to the ACB, the case pertains to alleged large-scale financial irregularities in procurement worth several hundred crores of rupees by the CPA, functioning under the DGHS.

The probe was initiated after the Directorate of Vigilance flagged suspicious transactions and possible procedural violations.
