Encroachment of park in Nand Nagri: NGT issues notice to MCD, others

New Delhi, Sep 14 The National Green Tribunal has sought a response from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and others over allegations of encroachment of designated green land or park in Nand Nagri area here.

The green panel was hearing a plea claiming that after encroachments, illegal constructions, such as commercial establishments and shops, had been raised upon the 'green land' or 'public park' in Nand Nagri's E-2 block.

In an order dated September 9, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad said that according to the applicant's counsel, the maintenance of colonies of this area was transferred from Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi with effect from June 1, 1988 and that the DDA's zonal plan marked the particular area as 'green land'.

"Issue notice to the respondents," the bench said, posting the matter for further proceedings on December 1.

The respondents or parties in the matter are the MCD, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and the district magistrate of northeast district.
