Faridabad, Aug 11 Faridabad District and Sessions Court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for strangling his wife to death with a rope after becoming enraged by her talking to another person on the phone, police said on Tuesday.
Additional Sessions Judge Ajay Sharma on Monday gave the order and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict. The incident took place on February 7, 2024.
According to the police, accused Pramod, after committing the murder, attempted to stage it as a suicide by hanging the body from the fan, but did not succeed.
According to advocate Ravindra Kumar Gupta, Pramod, a resident of Dukti village in Sambhal, married Meena, a resident of Gunnaur, in 2021.
Pramod ran a fast-food cart in the area, and the couple had a one-and-a-half-year-old son. Meena lived at her maternal home, and Pramod would visit her there occasionally.
In January 2024, Pramod rented a room at Trikha colony in the Ballabgarh area and began living there with Meena, the advocate said.
On the night of February 7, 2024, Pramod returned to his room after closing his street-side stall and found his wife talking to someone else on the phone, triggering an argument between the two.
In a fit of rage, Pramod struck Meena on the head with a ladle, but before the situation could go out of control, neighbours intervened and pacified the situation, police said.
Later that night, while Meena was asleep, Pramod strangled her to death using a rope kept in the room. He subsequently hanged her from the ceiling fan to make it appear as though she had committed suicide, they added.
The police handed over the body to the husband after a postmortem examination, and he then set off for the village. En route, Pramod's brother called the Meena's brother that she had committed suicide, police said.
Police said that Pramod later confessed to the murder after interrogation and was arrested.
Based on the evidence, the court on Monday sentenced the husband, Pramod, to life imprisonment and a fine, said police.
