Kolkata, Aug 12 The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday refused an urgent hearing of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's personal assistant Sumit Roy, who sought protection from coercive action in connection with some cases registered against him.
The Supreme Court and the high court had earlier granted relief to Roy in alleged land-grabbing and cash-for-jobs scam cases, respectively.
Refusing an urgent listing of the matter for hearing, Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya said that upgrading Roy's petition was not possible as numerous similar pleas were pending before the court, and his petition will appear according to the listing serial.
Roy's lawyer stated that the Supreme Court had granted him anticipatory bail and he was meeting the investigating officer as per summons.
He had appeared before the state CID at its Kolkata headquarters.
His counsel said that Roy is, however, vulnerable to police action in other cases registered against him, and sought an urgent hearing for grant of interim protection from coercive action by the police authorities.
The apex court had stayed Roy's arrest last week in connection with an alleged land-grabbing case in West Bengal's Salboni, while directing him to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Roy had been granted anticipatory bail by the high court in another case related to an alleged cash-for-jobs scam.
