Shimla, Sep 23 The Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, on Wednesday inaugurated live streaming of court proceedings along with an advanced videoconferencing system, officials said.
In his inaugural address, Sandhawalia said the initiative is not merely a technological facility but an important step towards making the justice system more transparent, accessible and people-friendly.
With this, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has become the 10th high court in the country to begin live streaming of court proceedings, the chief justice said.
Live streaming would bring greater transparency to judicial proceedings, thus strengthening public confidence in the justice system, he said.
“Keeping in view Himachal Pradesh's hilly and difficult terrains, the technology will prove beneficial for lawyers, law students and the public,” he said.
“Privacy and individual rights will be protected in sensitive matters, including cases involving children, victims of sexual offence and matrimonial matters.
“Robust cybersecurity measures will be put in place to prevent unauthorised recording, reproduction or misuse of the live-streamed proceedings,” the chief justice said.
