New Delhi, Aug 11 The National Green Tribunal has directed the CEO of Noida Authority to duly consider the issue of improper deconcretisation around trees and take appropriate action.
The NGT also asked the Noida authorities to carry out a spot inspection to verify the allegation of heavy pruning of trees in Sector 26 and then take the requisite remedial and punitive action.
A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad was hearing a plea alleging that the work of removing the concrete around the trees in Noida has not been properly done and it is just an eyewash.
According to the application, the agency employed for deconcretisation has removed the concrete around the trees only by 10-15 cm instead of 1 metre and in some places even that work has not been done. Besides, there was heavy pruning of the trees in Sector 26.
In an order dated August 6, the bench said that the issue raised needs verification at the ground level and if the allegation is correct, appropriate remedial and punitive action is required.
It said regarding the issue of inadequate and improper work of removing concrete around the trees, appropriate action is required to be taken by the Noida Authority.
“Hence, we direct the CEO, Noida Authority to duly consider this issue and take appropriate action within two months from the date of receipt of copy of this order,” the tribunal said.
“So far as the issue of heavy pruning is concerned, the Tree Officer and Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Noida are required to look into this issue, carry out the spot inspection and, if the allegation is correct, take appropriate remedial and punitive action. Let this exercise be completed within two months,” it added.
